The Client

Who they are.

Apex Capital Funded is a mid-tier Forex prop firm offering $5K to $100K trader-funding challenges to retail Forex and CFD traders. Founded by two ex-broker-side ops leads in 2024, scaling out of a referral-driven phase into proper paid acquisition. They came in spending roughly $15K per month on Meta with a $42 blended cost per challenge purchase, suspecting the cost should be lower and the volume higher. The challenge mix favored $10K and $25K tiers, with the $50K and $100K tiers carrying higher LTV but harder to convert cold.

Funnel performance dashboard showing 4-stage challenge acquisition flow with conversion rates per step

The Challenge

The starting point.

Scale paid spend 3x in 4 months while reducing cost per challenge purchase and improving the downstream challenge-to-funded conversion rate. The constraint set is what makes prop firm acquisition genuinely hard: Meta routinely flags payout claims as misleading, anyone over-promising "guaranteed funding" gets policy-actioned within 48 hours, retail trader audiences are heavily fatigued from competitor saturation, and the tier mix has to balance high-volume low-margin ($5K, $10K) with low-volume high-margin ($50K, $100K) challenges.

Constraint 1: Meta payout-claim policy: any "guaranteed" language gets restricted within hours

Constraint 2: Audience saturation: retail Forex trader pool overlaps heavily with competitor prop firms

Constraint 3: Tier mix economics: $5K challenges are high-volume / low-margin; $100K tiers are inverse

Constraint 4: Cross-channel attribution between Meta prospecting and Google branded search

The Strategy

What we actually did.

Four pillars. Compliance-safe creative architecture, cohort-segmented campaign structure, multi-step pre-qualification, and explicit cross-channel attribution.

01

Compliance-safe creative architecture

Built the creative library around payout-credibility (real trader testimonial UGC with on-screen disclaimers, verifiable payout-proof screenshots) and risk-reversal hooks (reset rules, scaling plans, profit-split clarity) rather than the "guaranteed funding" framings competitors lean on. Every script reviewed against Meta financial-services policy before production. Result: zero ad-account restrictions across the 4-month engagement despite scaling 3x.

02

Per-tier cohort segmentation

Five distinct campaign cohorts: $5K (high-volume top-of-funnel), $10K (workhorse tier, biggest share of spend), $25K (mid-LTV), $50K and $100K (warm retargeting only, never cold). Each cohort had its own audience definitions, creative angles, and budget thresholds. The $100K tier specifically only received traffic from people who had completed a $5K or $10K challenge previously. Mixing cold spend across tiers had been wasting roughly 18% of budget on under-qualified prospects.

03

Multi-step pre-qualification funnel

Replaced the single-page challenge-purchase flow with a 3-step pre-qualification path: trading-experience question → preferred-instrument question → risk-tolerance question → tier recommendation page → checkout. Step CVRs were lower than the single-page baseline, but the people who completed the path converted at challenge-to-funded rates almost 2x higher because the funnel was filtering out impulse-buyers who quickly failed evaluations.

04

Cross-channel attribution with branded search capture

Meta carries the cold demand-generation load; Google captures the branded search demand that Meta creates. Built a Google Ads structure specifically to capture "Apex Capital Funded review", "Apex prop firm payout", and competitor-comparison searches at a fraction of the cold CPA. Cross-channel attribution via Conversion API + server-side GA4 + Looker Studio showed branded search closing about 22% of total challenge purchases despite being only 12% of spend.

What we'd do next

The next chapter.

Phase 2 would extend the cohort model into the APAC market (Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan), build a TikTok prospecting layer for the $5K and $10K tiers where younger retail traders concentrate, and launch a tiered affiliate program rewarding payouts-as-content (trader-creators who post real payout screenshots earn higher commission tiers). The compliance-safe creative library means new markets and new channels add momentum instead of risk.
